DR. NEEL BHATAVADEKAR

Dr. Neel graduated from Nair Hospital Dental College, Bombay.
He then completed his Masters in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Florida where he studied the use of Bone grafts and Tissue Engineering Membranes.
Concurrent with post graduate training in Periodontology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he has completed a Masters in Public Health.
Dr. Neel the first US Board certified Periodontist and implantologist to be practicing in India and the first ITI (International Team for Implantology) Fellow in India.
He currently holds adjunct faculty appointments in
- The Department of Periodontology at the University of Texas Health Science Center, Houston,
- The Department of Bioengineering at Rice University, and at
- The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr Neel is also a
- Reviewer for the Journal of Periodontology,
- Editorial board member for Dentistry India (A journal of the Indian Dental Association)
- Consultant for renowned dental implant OEMs in Europe.

The American Board of Periodontology

What does it mean to be a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology?

The American Board of Periodontology is the governing body for the specialty of Periodontics in the United States (www.perio.org) . Upon graduation from an accredited post-graduate program in Periodontics, one can voluntarily appear for an oral and written exam administered by the American Board of Periodontology. After a meticulous peer-review process, the successful candidate is considered as ‘Board Certified’ and conferred the title of ‘Diplomate, American Board of Periodontology’ which represents the highest standard of training as a Periodontist. To the best of our knowledge, Dr.Bhatavadekar is currently the only US Board Certified Periodontist to be practicing in India. Recently, Dr.Bhatavadekar was honored as a Fellow of the International Team for Implantology (ITI, Switzerland), an organization for dental surgeons specializing in dental implants. This makes Dr.Bhatavadekar the only ITI Fellow from India.
